CONSTRUCTION

Self-priming centrifugal electric pumps are built according to the side channel principle. They consist of pairs of stage components placed in series between the suction and discharge bodies and joined together by tie rods. The intermediate stages are positioned radially with respect to the bodies to self-balance the thrusts and minimize shaft deflections. Each open "star" impeller is hydraulically self-balanced and therefore eliminates axial thrusts on the pump bearings. The number of impellers or stages varies according to the total head required. These electric pumps have a centrifugal stage positioned at the inlet of the suction mouth before the "star" impellers. The combination of the centrifugal stage with the side channel stages allows these electric pumps to be self-priming while maintaining a high head per stage.
